Ecological Surveys and Mitigation

acta undertakes a full range of ecological surveys for developers and local authorities. In addition to habitat and protected species we have particular expertise in habitat enhancement to provide net gains in development and the integrated restoration of historic landscape features and wildlife habitats. At present we are carrying out confidential ecological surveys of several potential development sites in the Southeast:

  • At one site in Kent we have been monitoring bird, reptile and badger activity for several years while the client, a leading residential developer, is seeking to have it allocated for development;
  • Two other recent project have been reptile surveys, preparation of mitigation proposals, identification of receptor sites and preparation of management plans for them;
  • BREEAM assessments have recently been carried-out on residential sites in London and Kent;
  • Recently-completed residential schemes at Kemsing near Sevenoaks in Kent for Hill Reed and another for a private developer at Kennington in Ashford required detailed design of planting schemes to give ecological gains.

Recent projects have required badger mitigation design and site management to prevent harm to badgers during construction

acta has carried out dormouse habitat assessments for the National Trust and other organisations and is currently undertaking detailed surveys

Herstmonceux SSSI. The ponds in this SSSI support the only colony of the nationally scarce milk parsley in Southeast England. acta plotted the extent of the colony in GIS and prepared detailed management proposals in agreement with Natural England
